Five Years of Partnership Creating Lasting Change for Children and Families

On 1 July 2026, Heimstaden Bostad mark five years of A Home for a Home, our unique partnership with SOS Children’s Villages. Together, we have developed innovative solutions for children and families in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities – some of which are now adopted and scaled by governments and other partners.

-“Five years ago, we started A Home for a Home with a simple belief: that every child deserves the safety and opportunity that comes with having a place they call home. Today, we are proud to see solutions developed through the partnership being scaled to reach even more children and families. That is the kind of lasting impact we strive to create,” says Helge Krogsbøl, Co-CEO of Heimstaden Bostad.

-“Pilot projects have delivered extraordinary results. Together, we have shown that it is possible to reach more children and achieve greater impact when locally developed solutions are combined with flexible funding,” says Sissel Aarak, Secretary General of SOS Children’s Villages Norway.

Five Years of Innovation and Impact
Since launching A Home for a Home in 2021, Heimstaden Bostad has supported 56 projects across 26 countries together with SOS Children’s Villages. The partnership has invested in innovative approaches to family strengthening, prevention, humanitarian response, climate adaptation, and support for children living on the streets.

One of the strongest examples of this approach comes from Ethiopia, where a pilot project supporting children in street situations has achieved such positive results that local authorities are now investing their own resources to expand the programme to additional cities. The model is also attracting interest from other countries looking to replicate its success.

Another example is from Somalia, where a pilot project introducing hydroponic farming has helped families improve food security and create new sources of income in drought-affected areas. In 2025, 95 percent of participants reported increased income and improved food security, while more than 75 percent had adopted and shared the methods within their own communities.

A Home for a Home Results in 2025
The newly released 2025 Results Report highlights the impact of the partnership during the past year:

  • More than 28,000 children and young people received support through long-term development programmes.
  • Nearly 8,000 families received assistance and follow-up support.
  • More than 220,000 people were reached through humanitarian interventions in Ukraine, Somalia and other crisis-affected areas.

Over the past five years, the partnership has reached more than 115,000 children and young people through long-term development programmes and more than 432,000 children and adults through humanitarian initiatives. In total, more than 1.5 million people have benefited indirectly from the support and help from the partnership.

Creating Space for the Best Solutions to Grow
The past five years have also shown that long-term partnerships can create impact far beyond the projects they directly fund. When successful pilot initiatives attract new partners, new funding and support from local authorities, even more children and families can benefit.

As we celebrate five years of A Home for a Home, we look forward to continuing our support for innovative solutions that help children grow up in safe and caring family environments, and to creating space for the best ideas to grow.
